ARTE Y DES-INDUSTRIALIZACIÓN
The research began with an encounter. Art and De-industrialization was a public seminar and performance festival that took place between 2018 and 2022 in different port cities, as well as coal and textile towns, across the post-industrial zones of Chile. As an introduction to the theme, the project explored the differences and specific characteristics of the Industrial Revolution in Europe and the formation of modern nations in Latin America. It also addressed the colonial dimension of the Global North–South relationship and its extension into the contemporary phenomenon of deindustrialization.
The outcome of this encounter was a three-volume publication containing essays, documents, and records that reflect the tensions between different communities and the transformation of their landscapes. The project brought together artists, activists, academics, and independent researchers from Latin America, Europe, and Africa.
In addition, it included a series of public-space performances connected to the research topics, such as human rights, food sovereignty, artists’ labor, and buen vivir.
