An introduction: La Revolución Des-industrial
Revolución Des-industrial (De-industrial Revolution) is an open invitation to collectively reflect on the effects of industrialization and deindustrialization in our lives through collaborative artistic practices.
The title refers to the historical period usually associated with the idea of progress, but it proposes approaching it from another revolutionary perspective, one that focuses on recognizing failures as well as possibilities for repair. At the same time, the prefix “de” becomes a gesture of dismantling the concept of industrialization itself, in order to open new possibilities at the level of language. In this sense, the project seeks to imagine alternatives and to examine the effects of the terminology of industrialization across multiple dimensions.
The proposal therefore involves questioning, testing, and developing methodologies around this topic, and explores how this research can be shared and transformed into an exchange with the audience through the following questions:
Is it possible to continue producing artistic objects in a context of industrial overproduction?
What would it mean to deindustrialize artistic practices—and ourselves?
Based on these questions, the structure of this artistic research has developed in stages between 2018 and the present. Within this process, my role—shaped by a collaborative artistic approach—remains flexible, moving between artist, writer, and editor, in co-creation with multiple participants and co-authors. The project has taken different formats, including seminars, meetings, publications, glossaries, workshops, and performances.
At its current stage, the project focuses on the classification, organization, and editing of the materials, documentation, and the theoretical and visual outcomes produced over these seven years. Most of these documents have been translated into English.
